Judith, Count Robert de Bertan's daughter, is on holiday with her friend Louise and her father Marquis Emile de Fers. Meanwhile, banker Charles Delcourt has introduced De Bertan to the owner of a gambling-and-dance hall, Olga Tatschowas.
