For the first time since he and Shakira split up last year, Gerard Piqué is speaking up, and he had some...interesting things to say.

Most people are now aware that the couple's split was very public, with Shakira publicly criticizing Gerard in a diss track while there were suspicions of adultery.

Shakira has been loud about the situation, but Gerard has been noticeably quiet, with the exception of a post introducing Clara Chia Marti, his new girlfriend.

Gerard responded that "everyone has their responsibility to try to do what is best for their children" as the reason he waited so long to speak.

After the split, Gerard said he was "very happy" and will “keep doing what I want.” He seemingly did not comment on his commitment to Shakira. Despite the unfavorable coverage, Gerard continued, he "is not going to spend money cleaning up [his] image."
