It has been reported that a Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel for the MCU is in the works, and Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi, appears to be open to making many, many more sequels (if he can.
The film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which debuted last year and was well received by both reviewers and audiences, featured Liu's hero for the first time. After becoming entangled in the actions of the Ten Rings criminal organisation, Shang-Chi is followed in the movie as he deals with the sinister aspects of his history. Although a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was revealed last year, information on the project has been scarce, and the movie isn't scheduled to be released in Phases 5 or 6 of the MCU.
It has been revealed that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed the previous movie, will return to direct Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2. There are still many unanswered concerns about the movie, aside from Liu and Cretton's involvement, but the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings post-credit scene might offer a hint as to what's to come. In the brief sequence, Benedict Wong's Wong, Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner meet with Liu's Shang-Chi and Awkwafina's Katy to discuss the history of the Ten Rings. Although the moment doesn't explicitly set anything up, it does hint that Shang-Chi will work more closely with other MCU heroes in the coming episodes.
DESTIN DANIEL CRETTON will once again serve as the film's director.
Following the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Cretton has been hard at work penning the follow-up, Shang-Chi 2, as well as preparing for the TV shows American Born Chinese and Scenes for Minors. Thank goodness he doesn't have a lot in his Shang-Chi family.
Although the release date of Shang-Chi 2 is still unknown, some fans speculate that it will arrive before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty because of the Ten Rings' conceivable relationship to Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror.
Simu Liu's readiness to return to star in more Shang-Chi sequels, even though it sounds exaggerated, is a positive indicator for the MCU's long-term objectives. Critics praised the actor for his portrayal of Shaun in the first film, and fans would be thrilled to see him reprise the role.
